Genesis

Bihar has one of the most fertile plains in the world formed by mighty rivers like, Ganga, Koshi, Ghaghra (Saryu) and Gandak. The State has been the land of non-violence of Lord Budha and Jain Mahavira. In the later phase, it has become the victim of racism and discrimination, caste conflicts, socio-economic and political rivalry. The social affinity and bondage in the local people’s organizations were broken. The peaceful Bihar was leaving its identity and image. The people were divided into different castes, creed and class based discrimination. The resultant Social differences and unrest culminated into hatred and violent incidences of mass genocide. The poorer were further impoverished to poor and the rich were becoming richer. Many armed conflicts between the different Castes, Class and religions compelled the poorest of poor to leave their land and villages and finally forced to migrate from their native place. This exodus of people was really painful indeed. A group of peace loving people assembled together discussed about the emerging situations and finally organized themselves to restore peace in the areas and help the needy people. Initially, these people tried to understand the basic reasons of the conflicting situations. They observed that the people’s illiteracy, unemployment and poverty are the fundamental factors responsible for the outcome at one side and on the flip side the people’s dominance and withering feudal structure and systems wanted to restore their prevailing practices. Thus, there was a tussle between these two schools of thoughts that was disturbing the calm and peaceful environment of Bihar. This committed Group of individuals were formally organized under GSSG and inaugurated the organization on Oct. 2, 1990. Further they started working on the welfare measures of the affected people. Initially, GSSG worked as per the demand of downtrodden people for their health and hygiene, peace keeping, literacy and education, training and capacity building through public meetings. The overwhelming response of the people and their participation further strengthened the confidence and morale of the Working Group. After more than two years of working, the people and the Founding Members felt the needs of registration of the GSSG to make it a legal entity and then finally GSSG was registered on Feb. 24 1993 under Societies Registration Act XXI, 1860, Govt. of Bihar. Now, GSSG is one of the leading and popular organization/NGO in Bihar as it is working for more than 30 years with the support of different national and international organizations, Govt. Departments and Corporate Bodies.
